The Plan vs the Reality

Friday 7/23
The Plan: Since we were onsite, it seemed reasonable to think that we could be up early (to minimize the heat) and get prepped and ready to step the mast and launch by noon. Since it was Friday, we expected the boat ramp to become increasingly busy as the day got later. We also were expecting friends to join us for dinner and perhaps an evening sail to view the full moon. A few hours on the water before they arrived would give us (me) time to unpack the boat from travel and prepare to truly camp on the water for a couple nights.

The Reality: Sid got a lovely photo of the lake in the early morning, but nothing else went quite right that day.

Perfect early morning shot of Pyramid Peak

As the photos show, we ended up launching about 5:30pm in the midst of heavy traffic. We were a hot mess on several levels but our gracious friends pretended not to mind. Due to fires, the air condition was quite smoky so mountains were hard to see (think Los Angeles on any day except New Year’s Day) and the full moon was fiery red when you could see it.

Think the poor guy is hot?
