The Plan vs The Reality Part 2

Saturday 7/24

The Plan: Sid wanted a "quick" morning sail to scope out a cove in which we could anchor overnight. The hope was to gain some cool breeze out on the water and there were no slips available so we had tied to the courtesy dock on Friday night since it was late when we got back from the attempt to view the full moon.

My cousin Dave and his wife Kris were to join us for lunch and the afternoon and Nate & Nadine were again joining us for dinner, our turn to cook. (Both couples were camping locally for the weekend.) I imagined we would be back at dock late afternoon so I would have time to clean up from lunch and have clean dishes for dinner and cooking.

The Reality: We were on Sid Time for the morning sail, which meant Dave & Kris had arrived at the dock, with their dog, Tulsa, and had to wait for us more than an hour. I still hadn't really had an opportunity to get the boat fully unpacked and ready for living/cooking so we had a late lunch. Sid took us out on the water and we anchored in a cove to avoid as much of the wake from power boats as possible. It was a lovely day, but HOT, so the three of them all took a swim. By the time everyone had been in the water, I had tried to clean up lunch as best I could, Sid wanted to really show Dave and Kris what sailing was all about. Unfortunately, the winds were light and quite variable so true sailing was all but impossible. Undaunted, Sid kept trying though that now made us late to get back to the dock and exchange passengers.

Clockwise: Kris, Cindy, Dave, Captain Sid

Nate & Nadine had already arrived as we disembarked Dave & Kris. We were almost out of washing water and of course, no washing of dishes and cooking utensils had occurred yet. N&N volunteered to go get more water, which we reluctantly accepted. That meant that they lugged a 5 gallon bottle of water (remember the collapsible bottle) down a very steep boat ramp and LONG courtesy dock to the boat. They then enjoyed beverages while watching us wash the dishes and prepare dinner, all while sitting at the dock. By the time dinner was prepared and cooked, all agreed that it was delicious, but much too late to go out on the lake. (I believe they are aware of Sid Time 😂) We so enjoyed spending time with both couples, even if we did alienate them with our idea of hospitality.

We spent the night at the dock. 🤷‍♀️

Next stop: Cody WY on the way to Yellowstone, but that means trailering and unstepping the mast. What could go wrong?

  1. I’m enjoying “traveling” with you! Reminds me of Lewis & Clark...or is it Desi & Lucy ...or Laurel & Hardy?
