Sunday 7/25
The Plan: Beat the heat and the majority of boaters wanting to trailer and pull out after enjoying the weekend. Unstep the mast and be on our way across WY for a shower, real bed and the prospect of laundry and grocery shopping before going into Yellowstone on Monday.
The Reality: Sid struck up a conversation with Shane, the 50th birthday gent. This meant that we didn’t get the boat trailered until 12:30-ish despite being less than 150 yds from the ramp. We still had to unstep the mast and get pickup and boat prepped for travel. We were ascending to Cody WY 300 miles away. The marina shop closes at 2pm on Sundays so if we wanted help with the mast it needed to be by then. The boat gets up to the parking lot by 1pm. Sid wants to level the trailer and starts the preliminary steps to getting the mast down.
It is in the high 90s and midday sun. He pushed through knowing our buddy, Nick, a marina worker with sailing experience was about to get off work. We got the mast down onto the stepper cradle, but Sid couldn’t get the bolt out to finish the job. He finally needed to take a break. The only shade was in front of a vault toilet (polite name for enclosed latrine). He was wiped, utterly. We later decided it was probably heat exhaustion.

Passing Boysen Reservoir, a lake we gave up after our late start. 8:40 pm |
Shortening the story, we were pulling out of Glendo just after 5p, Sid is concerned about the pickup overheating so micromanaged the gear shifting and speed all the way to Cody. I was too wiped to even remember to take photos
Parking the boat after 11pm at the hotel was not as quiet as I imagine most other guests would have preferred. 🥺

Feet on the ground in the room! Daughter Jillian won the bet on what time we would arrive. 😉 |
Laundry and grocery shopping will have to wait until Monday. We can still make it into Yellowstone and get the boat launched before dark, right? Wrong!
